HAPPENNIG NOW: ASUP PROTEST IN ABUJA DISRUPTED

The protest by striking lecturers of Nigeria’s polytechnics and colleges of education has been disrupted.

The protest, held at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, was disrupted on
Tuesday morning when police officers fired tear-gas at the protesters,
made up of lecturers and students.

The protesters, however, say they will not leave the venue.

The protest was organized to show displeasure at the federal
government’s handling of the strike by polytechnic lecturers ASUP, and
college lecturers, COEASU.

Both unions have been on strike since last year with hundreds of thousands of students unable to attend lectures...

FORENSIC EXPERT IDENTIFY NYANYA SUICIDE BOMBERS

Forensic  experts  have successfully
established the identities of two men that  participated in  the
bombing  of  Nyanya, a satellite community bordering the Federal Capital
Territory and Nasarawa State  on  April 14, 2014.
Security sources in Abuja  on Monday say that the experts  identified
their  bodies  using certain scientific variables, including body
tissues.
It was learnt that they also   identified the third suicide bomber, who managed to escape from the scene before the explosion.
One of the  sources said,  “The third
terror suspect has also been positively identified and we are working to
arrest him; but the identities of his two accomplices have  been
established through forensic analysis.

“Through the assistance of experts,  we
now know those who carried out the attack. Although two of them are
dead, we are on the trail of the one who is  alive.”
When contacted on the progress  so far
made by the team, the  Police spokesman,    Frank Mba, said  he would
speak “at the appropriate time.”
He said, “As much as we want to give
information to the public on the progress of the investigation, I won’t
comment on it now because we don’t want to be distracted.
“We don’t want anything to jeopardise the investigation. I will speak at the appropriate time.”
Meanwhile, 29 victims of the bomb blast are still receiving treatment at hospitals in the  FCT.

It was learnt that 30  others were
discharged last Thursday from the National Hospital  and the Maitama
District Hospital, Abuja.
The Chief Press Secretary to the FCT
minister, Mohammed Sule,   said  the medical bills of all the
survivors   were   paid by the FCT Administration.
Sule dismissed reports that the
administration had neglected the blast victims . He however said that
a   victim who discharged himself from the Maitama District Hospital
and  checked into a private hospital was  not covered.

He  said, “As of  Thursday last week, we
had 29 blast victims still receiving treatment in various government
and private hospitals in the FCT and all their medical bills are being
paid  by the FCT Administration.
“The FCT Minister and the Health
Minister both promised to take care of the bills  . We have records of
all the patients and everything that is being done for them as directed
by the ministers.”

Meanwhile, the  Nigeria Labour Congress has attributed the security challenge in the country to   poverty.
Its   Vice-president, Lucy Offiong, who
briefed  journalists  on the plans for  the 2014 May Day celebrations,
therefore urged the government to urgently end  poverty and the
insurgency in the North-East.
She challenged security agencies to
ensure that the girls abducted by insurgents in Chibok, Borno State were
rescued and returned to their parents.

Female architect, 23, died after running into burning flat to save her fiance

A young architect died after rushing into a burning block of flats to try and save her fiance, an inquest heard.

Sophie Rosser, 23, tried to raise the alarm when she saw the flat she shared with fiance Oscar Silva, 28, on the Isle of Dogs, East London, was on fire in August last year.

Poplar Coroner's court heard Miss Rosser, who had been returning from a party in Chelsea, had phoned Mr Silva to say he should get out.

Her body was found on the fourth floor and Mr Silva told the court he watched from the balcony, where he had fled from the smoke, as paramedics desperately tried to revive her.

In a statement read to the court said: 'A cab dropped her off at 1.37 on Sunday morning and I was asleep. Sophie called me to say there was a fire and our flatmate and I should evacuate.

'The intercom sounded but I couldn't hear who it was. The stairwell was full of smoke so we couldn't get out. We went back into the flat. I rang Sophie at 1.43 but there was no answer.

'I went to get the lift thinking she might have got in, but when it arrived there was nobody in it. I closed the door to the flat and went to open the balcony.

'I saw the fire brigade arriving and I saw paramedics doing their best to revive Sophie. When we got out I went to the hospital and I saw her twice, but she never regained consciousness.'

Miss Rosser was found in the lobby of the fourth floor of the six-floor building by fireman Joseph Carter.

Miss Rosser had been returning from a party in Chelsea when she saw the block was on fire

Miss Rosser's body was found on the fourth floor and Mr Silva told the court he watched from the balcony, where he had fled from the smoke, as paramedics desperately tried to revive her

Mr Carter, who was based at Millwall, told the inquest: 'When we arrived there were people crying, telling us to get in and get people out. It was my first big fire so I was quite nervous.

'When we got to the fourth floor there was zero visibility and it was very, very hot. I could feel the heat coming through my boots.

'I was staying low, virtually kneeling. I was feeling around with my left arm whilst trying to keep the wall close enough to touch so I could feel where I was.

'You couldn't see anything. My arm was outstretched and I was feeling for anything.

'After about 10 seconds of entering the lobby I felt Sophie's foot with my hand. I shouted "casualty" "casualty" until I knew my colleague knew I had found someone.

'I got to her head and she was unconscious. I got her to the lobby door and passed her over to my colleague.'

Miss Rosser was found on the fourth floor of the block, where the fire originated

Coroner Mary Hassell asked Mr Carter if he could have remained conscious without breath apparatus in the area where he found Miss Rosser.

He said: 'It was really bad, it was thick black smoke from ceiling to the floor. Smoke would have overcome her in a matter of seconds.'

Miss Rosser was found on the fourth floor of the block, where the fire originated. It appears she was trying to make her way to the fifth floor where she lived with her boyfriend, to try and save him.

Coroner Dr Hassell asked: 'Is there any reason why she could have ended up on the fourth floor when she knew she lived on the fifth? We know she was trying to get to her boyfriend, but could she have become disorientated?'

Paul Hobbs, a firefighter from Whitechapel who arrived on the scene shortly after, told the inquest: 'It's hard to say, but she would have been overwhelmed with smoke and with the adrenaline pumping, she could have become disorientated.'

Grace Adong, a neighbour, told the inquest how she had left a damp towel over a lamp in her room, which appeared to cause the fire.

She said: 'I didn't think it would be any danger, the lamp had never worked in the two months I had been there.'

She said after returning from work she went to bed at about 1am but was woken by the smoke.

Mrs Adong told the court: 'I went to sleep about 1am. I noticed white smoke coming under the bedroom door. I opened it and there was a metre high of smoke in the corridor.

'I went into the front room and there were flames an the curtain was on fire. I thought it best I opened the balcony door to get rid of some smoke.'

The coroner asked: 'Had it not occurred to you that by opening the balcony door it could make things worse?'

Miss Adong told the court: 'No.'

The court heard how she ran out of the flat and banged all the doors on her floor to alert people but the fire continued to rage.

Woman kills her own new born child because he looked like her Ex boyfriend

18-year-old Ana Rosa Mora (pictured above) has been arrested for killing
her own child because the the new born looked like her ex-boyfriend.
Ana wrapped her baby in a bag and left him
outside to die because she feared the child looked like her ex-boyfriend
and her current boyfriend would leave her.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the teen gave birth last weekend and
attended school on Monday after allegedly committing the act and even
showed staff members pictures of a
newborn girl that she claimed she downloaded from the Internet.

But after employees noticed strange behavior - such as the girl asking
if authorities could link her to the child through DNA and lying about
the baby's age - they alerted authorities. Continue...

The child had been found by a construction worker a few hours after the child was left outside.
The boy was born alive but died of asphyxia and possible exposure, authorities said.

The new mother said her ex-boyfriend was the father and when the child
was born she feared her current boyfriend would notice and leave her,
the newspaper reported. She was arrested Friday April 25th.

Mora, who was scheduled to graduate from high school in June and attend
college in the fall is facing charges of first-degree murder and is now being held on $500,000 bail.

Shocking: The second coming of Jesus Christ may never happen – Vatican

The SPOKESPERSON for the Vatican officially announced some days ago that the second coming of Jesus, the only son of the God, may not happen now after all, but urged followers to still continue with their faith, regardless of the news.

Cardinal Giorgio Salvadore told WWN that this years 1,981st anniversary is to be the Vatican’s last in regards to waiting for the Lord to return to Earth.

“We just feel Jesus is not coming back by the looks of it.” he said. “It’s been ages like. He’s probably flat out doing other really good things for people somewhere else.”

Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus promised his disciples that he would come again in chapter John 14:1-3 of the bible: “There are many homes up where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with Me where I am. If this weren’t so, I would tell you plainly”

The Vatican defended Jesus’ broken promise, claiming “he was probably drinking wine” at the time when he made the comments.

“Having the ability to turn water into wine had its ups and its downs.” added Cardinal Salvadore. “We all make promises we can’t keep when we’re drunk. Jesus was no different.”

The church said it will now focus attentions on rebuilding its reputation around the world, but will keep an optimistic mind for the savior’s second coming.

'My mother and father were brother and sister' - Harry Song speaks

Singer Harrysong known now as Mr Songs, revealed recently that his father and mother are siblings.

In an interview with Yes! magazine, he said he's an only child because
his parents split after finding out they were related by blood.

"My father and mother are actually brother and sister. They gave birth to me before they could realize that. It was a big abomination, so they
had to separate. Even, they attempted to kill my father in that village
but he fled, because in Warri where I come from , it is a taboo. They
termed it incest.”

POLICE ARREST 14 YEAR OLD GIRL FOR KILLING OWN HUSBAND

The police in Kano have arrested a 14-year-old girl for allegedly killing her husband and two of his friend.

This is contained in a statement by the spokesperson of the Kano police, Magaji Majiya, on Wednesday.

The incident happened at Gaya Local Government Area of the state,
with the police suspecting that the accused teenager poisoned the
victims.

“The husband took his meal outside and ate it with his 14 friends.

“And as a result, the husband and two of his friends died on the spot
while 10 others were treated and discharged,’’ the police said.

Although the Nigerian law recognizes a 14-year-old as an under-aged,
religion and local customs, also recognized by the constitution, allow
for such marriages.

Such child marriages are common in the local areas, particularly among Muslims from the Northern part of Nigeria.
